Security forces arrested CPI (Maoist) Politburo member Misir Besra in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Tuesday, effectively leaving the banned outfit with no active Central Committee members at large.
Besra, who carried a reward of over ₹1 crore, was captured in the Tundi-Mandiya forest area alongside associates Gaurav Hasda and Mochu after a two-decade-long pursuit.
Following the arrest, the Union Home Ministry is expected to review the status of West Singhbhum district, which was previously classified as a district of concern due to Maoist activity.
