BJP Blames 'Foreign Forces' for Kolkata NEET Protest Violence

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari claimed on July 26, 2026, that Islamic fundamentalists backed by foreign forces were responsible for the violence during Friday's NEET protests in Kolkata.

Police have arrested 14 individuals in connection with the clashes, which resulted in seven cases being filed, six of which were initiated by journalists who were assaulted by the mob.

The state government has invoked the Goonda Act against the accused, allowing for up to 12 months of preventive detention, marking the first time this law has been applied in West Bengal.
