The 17th Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has become the deadliest in the nation's history, with the death toll reaching 2,325 confirmed fatalities.
The National Public Health Institute reported 4,945 total infections as of Sunday, including 101 new cases detected within the previous 24 hours, with a case fatality ratio now at 46 percent.
Caused by the Bundibugyo virus, the outbreak is spreading rapidly near borders with Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan, where ongoing conflict and weak infrastructure continue to hinder containment efforts.
