A U.S. federal court sentenced 74-year-old Samir Ousman Alsheikh, a former high-ranking Syrian security official under Bashar al-Assad, to 60 years in prison.

Alsheikh was convicted in March of three counts of torture, one count of conspiracy to commit torture at Adra Prison, and immigration fraud regarding green card procurement.
