U.P. Congress Leaders Detained During Lucknow Protest Against CEC

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai and party workers were stopped and detained by police in Lucknow on Friday while marching toward the Assembly to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Protesters climbed barricades and raised slogans, resulting in a scuffle with police before hundreds of party members were taken to Eco Garden and later released in the evening.

Mr Rai alleged that the CEC assisted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's victory in Varanasi and announced plans for district-level protests on Monday.
