Congress MLAs burn Punjab Chief Minister's effigy over activist murder

Congress MLAs led by opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa burned an effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann outside the Assembly complex on Thursday, demanding his resignation over the murder of anti-drug crusader Parvinder Singh Jhota.

Jhota was shot dead at a chemist shop in Mansa town and declared brought dead at the civil hospital, drawing widespread condemnation from political leaders over the state's deteriorating law and order.

BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon accused the government of accountability evasion, noting that the Assembly session lasted only a few minutes without discussing key issues like gangsterism and drug menace.
