The Allahabad High Court quashed an FIR alleging dowry harassment and physical assault, warning that routinely converting failed marriages into criminal cases damages the institution of marriage.
The case involved a couple who cohabited for approximately two-and-a-half months between November 2024 and February 2025 before the husband filed for divorce in May 2025.
The division bench noted that no contemporaneous police complaints or control room calls regarding domestic violence had been recorded during the period of cohabitation.
