Loyola High School Rejects Quebec Funding to Preserve Catholic Mission

Loyola High School in Montreal will forgo provincial government subsidies to maintain its Jesuit, Catholic identity following the implementation of Quebec’s Bill 9 secularism rules on September 1.

The decision will create a funding gap of approximately $7,500 per student annually, causing tuition fees to rise from roughly $12,530 to nearly $21,000 starting when subsidy provisions take effect in 2029.

The school is launching a major capital campaign to grow its endowment and ensure financial accessibility for families, following a survey of 1,500 community members conducted in April 2026.
