Rescuers Recover Body of Mountaineer Nirmal Purja in Pakistan

Rescue teams recovered the body of Nepali-British mountaineer Nirmal Purja and six others from Broad Peak in Pakistan following an avalanche that struck on July 30, 2026.

The 43-year-old Purja, famous for his 2019 record of climbing all 14 peaks over 8,000 metres in 189 days, was part of a ten-member international expedition.

Three climbers, including a Pakistani guide, remain missing on the 8,051-metre peak, with recovery efforts hampered by the region's treacherous terrain and limited helicopter capacity.
