Delhi Reports Surge in H1N1 Influenza Cases as Surveillance Increases

New Delhi has recorded 1,777 H1N1 influenza cases so far in 2026, marking an eight-fold increase compared to the 229 cases reported during the same period in 2025.

While India recorded 3,320 total H1N1 cases and 14 deaths in 2025, health officials state the current rise does not indicate a new viral strain but reflects seasonal trends during the rainy season.

Health Minister JP Nadda has directed officials to enhance hospital preparedness and surveillance, while Delhi's health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh confirmed the capital has sufficient medical resources to manage the current patient load.
