FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi Over Haldwani Ritual Remarks

Uttarakhand police registered an FIR against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST Act following a complaint from a Valmiki community member.

The complaint alleges that Gandhi’s August 29 remarks in Delhi regarding a 'purification yajna' held at Haldwani's Ramlila Ground on August 11 were casteist and intended to outrage religious feelings.

Congress leaders, including Kumari Selja, condemned the FIR as a political move by the BJP government to silence opposition voices questioning the 'anti-Dalit' nature of the ritual.
