15 Infants Die in Fire at Islamabad Hospital Gynaecology Ward

A fire erupted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on August 26, 2026, resulting in the reported deaths of 15 infants within the hospital's gynaecology ward.

Local reports indicate 16 newborns were present in the ward when the blaze began at approximately 7 a.m., with only one infant successfully rescued from the scene by emergency responders.

PIMS Spokesperson Dr. Aneeza Jalil stated the fire likely originated from a short circuit, noting that while flames are extinguished, the exact casualty count remains unconfirmed pending further official investigation.
