A Special Investigation Team is probing the circulation of ₹17 crore in counterfeit currency discovered at the Punjab National Bank currency chest in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The investigation follows the suspension of three bank officials, Ravi Kumar Kansay, Sushil Kumar Sharma, and Amit Kumar, alongside part-time housekeeper Vishal Kumar, who was allegedly caught on CCTV removing notes.
The bank has initiated a departmental inquiry while the Reserve Bank of India conducts a separate audit after an initial shortage of ₹4,30,900 was reported in cash sent to Jaipur.
