More than 30,000 people gathered in Nalbari town on Tuesday for a BJP-backed rally under the banner of Jan Jagaran Samdal to express support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah addressed the gathering and called for a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls every five years to prevent illegal immigrants from remaining on voter lists.

Baruah also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and opposition parties over electronic voting machine complaints, challenging them to contest future elections through ballot papers after resigning from their seats.
