Microsoft Quantum announced its Majorana 2 quantum computing processor in a preprint paper, replacing aluminium with lead and adopting a gallium-antimonide substrate to reduce disorder.
The upgrade reportedly increased the topological gap from 30 microelectron-volts to 70 microelectron-volts and extended the parity switching time from milliseconds to approximately 20 seconds.
Independent physicists, including Sergey Frolov, expressed skepticism, noting that Microsoft's previous record with Majorana 1 left doubts regarding whether the work rests on verified Majorana zero modes.
