Check Point Study Ranks Education Sector as Most Cyber-Attacked Worldwide

Research by Check Point ranks education as the most targeted sector globally, with an average institution facing 4,696 weekly cyberattacks between January and July 2026, rising to 7,452 in the Asia-Pacific region.

Universities remain vulnerable due to open campuses, decentralised IT departments, and the aggregation of sensitive student data such as Aadhaar and bank details.

With CERT-In issuing warnings on autonomous AI agents reaching live corporate systems and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act enforcing institutional liability, universities are urged to adopt audited vendor contracts and security updates.
