Nepal PM Proposes Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah proposed establishing a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism involving Nepal, India, and China during his UN General Assembly address.

Mr. Shah emphasized that warming temperatures are destabilizing the Himalayan ecosystem and accelerating the risk of glacier-related natural disasters.

The Prime Minister noted that the recent devastating floods pushed Nepal's physical recovery needs to about 10 percent of its Gross Domestic Product.
