Ten people died and 16 were injured during a deadly riot at the El Castillo Penitentiary in Mazatlan during family visiting hours.
The dead include nine inmates and one family visitor, according to the Public Security Secretariat.
Army, National Guard, navy and state security forces entered the facility and brought the prison under control.
