Lula da Silva wins fourth term in Brazil presidential election

Left-wing leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva secured a fourth term in Brazil's election with 51.79% of the vote in a comeback against Flávio Bolsonaro.

Runner-up Flávio Bolsonaro refused to recognise the result and called for the election to be annulled over a Supreme Court justice's decision to extend voting nationwide.

Lula will begin his new term on January 5, 2030, following a bitterly fought campaign amid international reactions and domestic economic challenges.
