Sensex and Nifty opened in the red on Tuesday after sliding to near six-month lows in Monday's session amid rising oil prices and geopolitical concerns.
Around 9:30 am on Tuesday, Sensex stood down over 504 points at 72,267.02, while the NSE Nifty traded 137.55 points lower at 22,699.50.
Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth 53.53 billion rupees on Monday, marking their highest selling in four weeks.
