The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has become the nation's deadliest, with government figures confirming 2,325 deaths from 4,945 cases since being declared on May 15.
The current surge is the fastest-growing on record, killing one victim every 30 minutes, and has spread from the northeastern province of Ituri to five other provinces across the country.
Over 70 percent of victims die within their communities rather than health centers due to widespread mistrust, while armed groups in North and South Kivu continue to hamper international response efforts.
