WHO Renews Science Council to Address AI and Gene Editing Risks

The World Health Organization has renewed its 21-member Science Council, incorporating experts in AI, gene editing, and robotics to provide strategic advice on emerging health technologies.

The council now includes two youth representatives to ensure that long-term consequences of rapid scientific advancements are considered alongside current public health priorities and regulatory needs.

Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that the body will help WHO anticipate risks and opportunities in fields like synthetic biology before these innovations are widely adopted globally.
