Japanese credit rating agency JCR has upgraded India's sovereign rating from 'BBB+' to 'A-', marking the first such 'A' rating for the country in 35 years.
The upgrade reflects recognition of India's deep structural reforms, improved fiscal quality, and the strengthening of the domestic banking sector over the last decade.
Finance Ministry officials welcomed the move, stating that the improved rating will likely lower borrowing costs for Indian firms and attract higher levels of foreign institutional investment.
