Measles Outbreak in Bangladesh Reaches 999 Deaths This Year

Bangladesh has recorded 999 deaths from suspected measles cases since the start of 2026, with over 1,66,000 suspected infections reported by the Ministry of Health.

The outbreak, which saw a surge in cases after March, is attributed to gaps in routine vaccination coverage caused by pandemic disruptions and political instability in 2024.

Health officials report that infected children are frequently arriving at hospitals with severe complications including pneumonia, diarrhea, and encephalitis, straining medical resources.
