Australia Confirms First Mass Mortality Event from H5 Bird Flu

Australia recorded its first mass mortality event caused by H5 bird flu in native seabirds near Cape Jaffa, South Australia.

Agriculture Minister Julie Collins confirmed the findings, noting that 74 cases of the virus have been recorded in the country since June.

The government warned that further spread and larger numbers of affected wildlife are expected as the outbreak continues.
