BCI Co-Chairman Demands Resignation of Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra

Bar Council of India co-chairman Y.R. Sadasiva Reddy and member Manoj Kumar Narendran formally demanded the resignation of chairman Manan Kumar Mishra during a General Council meeting on August 22, 2026.

The demand follows allegations of financial mismanagement, including claims that law colleges are being pressured to contribute between ₹25 lakhs and ₹1 crore to a newly created BCI trust.

Mishra, who has held the chairmanship since 2012, is currently facing a Supreme Court petition challenging his prolonged tenure and criticism over the handling of a recent NALSAR student controversy.
