Medical experts in Odisha recommended matching sickle cell medical reports instead of horoscopes before marriage to prevent passing on the genetic disorder.

Around 10.61% of the population screened in Odisha has either the sickle cell trait or sickle cell disease, categorizing the state among 17 high-prevalence regions.

Experts emphasized that individuals with sickle cell disease can lead healthy married lives and normal lifespans if their partner does not carry the trait or disease.
