China has initiated its largest automotive recall to date, covering 4.3 million vehicles from nine manufacturers, including Tesla and Xiaomi, due to safety concerns regarding concealed door handles.
The recall addresses emergency mechanical release mechanisms that may be difficult to operate during collisions, with Tesla alone accounting for 2.98 million of the affected units.
China will officially prohibit the use of concealed door handles on all new vehicles starting in 2027, marking the first global ban on the design to improve occupant safety.
