A car deliberately drove into a group of people in Neustadt am Ruebenberge near Hanover in northern Germany shortly before midnight on Monday.
The incident left four to five people with injuries ranging from minor to severe, according to local police.
A nearby police patrol intervened by firing shots at the BMW, whose occupants fled the scene and remained at large.
