Google Withdraws Earth AI Image Feature After Deepfake Controversy

Google has rolled back its AI image generation feature in Google Earth just one day after its July 30 launch following widespread misuse.

The tool, powered by the Nano Banana 2 AI model, was disabled after users shared realistic deepfake images depicting false terror attacks and industrial accidents.

Google stated it is currently implementing stronger guardrails to prevent the spread of misinformation before considering any future re-release of the geospatial AI tool.
