Jay Meena defeated the Philippines' Sherwin Nuguit 4-3 in the men's singles quarter-final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday.
The victory secured India's first-ever medal in soft tennis at the continental event, guaranteeing Meena at least a bronze.
The 26-year-old Indian will face Japan's Takuya Kurosaka in the semi-final later on Wednesday for a place in the gold medal match.
