Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman acknowledged public debate surrounding long-term capital gains tax and securities transaction tax during her appearance at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum on Tuesday.
Sitharaman noted that the Reserve Bank of India is intervening in foreign exchange markets specifically to curb rupee volatility rather than to defend a fixed exchange rate.
Expressing confidence in reviving private investment, Sitharaman highlighted strong capital inflows into sectors such as renewable energy, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and aviation.
