
World Bank Executive Director Neelkanth Mishra dismissed claims that India's GDP growth was 2.6% instead of 7.8%, labeling such assertions as egregiously wrong and ill-educated.
Mishra cited robust economic indicators, including a 35% year-on-year growth in personal vehicle dispatches in August 2026 and accelerating credit growth, to support the official 7.8% growth figure.
He stated that the new data series introduced in February 2026 improved methodology and credibility, noting that the economy should maintain a 7.5% growth trajectory with neutral fiscal and monetary policies.
