Indonesian Passenger Ship Loses Contact in Java Sea With Over 240 Aboard

Indonesian rescuers launched a search operation on Sunday after authorities lost contact with the passenger ship Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea.

The vessel was carrying 241 passengers from East Java to South Kalimantan and had encountered bad weather according to the operator.

The ship's last known position was about 148 kilometres from a pier in Banjarmasin, with no immediate reports of casualties.
