Parliamentary IT Panel Demands Meta Apology Over PM Modi Video Removal

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology issued a three-day ultimatum to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to apologise for the removal of a video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The panel, led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, threatened to revoke Meta's safe harbour immunity under Section 79(3) of the IT Act if the apology is not tendered by August 8, 2026.

The committee also targeted Google India over cyber frauds in Hyderabad where victims lost over ₹48 lakh, demanding the removal of the firm's safe harbour protection for hosting malicious applications.
