
The Union government informed the Supreme Court on August 21, 2026, that it cannot grant grace marks to Class 12 students affected by On-Screen Marking (OSM) discrepancies.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that 1.68 lakh students applied for re-evaluation during a one-week window, but further concessions for those who missed the deadline are not possible.
The petitioner reported that over 17 lakh students appeared for the May 2026 exams, with the overall pass percentage dropping by 3.19 percentage points to 85.2% this year.
