India will host the IWF Weightlifting World Championships in Ahmedabad in 2029 for the first time after winning the hosting rights over competing bids from Russia and Venezuela.
The announcement was made by the International Weightlifting Federation during its executive board meeting in Ningbo, China, on Sunday.
The 2029 championships will serve as a qualifying event for the 2030 Commonwealth Games to be hosted in India, providing domestic weightlifters berths opportunities.
