Fifteen individuals were arrested in Ujjain on Monday following protests and stone-pelting during the demolition of a portion of the Shahi Masjid for a road-widening project.
Police used tear gas and a cane charge to control the crowd after protestors attacked security personnel, injuring several policemen and resulting in 20 people being booked.
Ujjain collector Roshan Kumar stated that 12 of 14 affected religious structures have been removed cooperatively, while the Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a petition challenging the action.
