The tanker MT El Gaia was operating in dark mode with its Automatic Identification System switched off when it was hit by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend.
The vessel had 25 crew members on board comprising 14 Indian and 11 Pakistani nationals, with two crew members remaining unaccounted for following the engine room attack.
The Omani Coast Guard boarded the vessel and transferred the remaining 23 crew members ashore, while the U.S. and Iran have disputed whether a missile, drone, or naval mines caused the damage.
