Yemeni government forces recaptured the al-Khazan and al-Makahna hills in the Jabal Habashi district on Friday, following a broad offensive launched by Houthi rebels on Thursday.
Casualty reports indicate at least 120 people have been killed since the offensive began, including 24 government troops and 42 Houthi fighters, according to military and medical sources.
The Houthis aim to control territory overlooking the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the port city of al-Makha, which they previously held before being driven out by a Saudi-led coalition in 2017.
