Grand Canyon Flash Flood Leaves One Dead and 15 Missing

A major flash flood in Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday killed a 46-year-old man and left approximately 15 people missing, prompting the evacuation of at least 62 individuals.

The deluge, caused by 0.5 to 1 inch of rain falling in 20 minutes, destroyed footbridges and the park's only water pipeline, forcing the closure of lodges and hotels starting Monday.

National Park Service officials are coordinating with the Arizona Department of Public Safety to search for the missing, while popular areas like Bright Angel Campground and Phantom Ranch remain closed.
