Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 1,341 Amid Mass Burials

Flash floods that struck northern and central Nepal on August 26 have killed 1,341 people, forcing grieving families to perform symbolic cremations using grass effigies due to missing bodies.

Authorities have recovered 1,344 bodies, of which 1,030 have been temporarily buried across regions like Chitwan and Rasuwa after police collected DNA samples for future identification.

Only 96 bodies have been successfully identified and returned to families, as the scale of the disaster overwhelms local resources and challenges traditional Hindu funeral rites.
