The CDC reported that the drug-resistant fungus Candida auris has been detected in 27 US states, with 3,437 confirmed cases as of 25 July.
California leads the nation with 873 cases, followed by Texas with 433 and Tennessee with 283, though total national cases have declined from 4,290 last year.
While mortality rates range from 30% to 60%, the CDC notes that over 95% of samples collected between 2022 and 2023 were resistant to the antifungal drug fluconazole.
