The Western Cape Education Department is investigating an alleged racist incident that occurred during an interschools rugby match between Fairmont High School and Settlers High School.

A video circulating on social media shows the referee ending the match early following claims that a racial slur was used by a participant.

Department official Bronagh Hammond has urged the public to stop sharing the footage to avoid legal consequences while the schools conduct their formal investigation.
