West Lakes Academy Fails to Improve Under Special Measures

An Ofsted monitoring inspection found that West Lakes Academy in Egremont has not made sufficient progress since being placed in special measures in June 2025.

Inspectors noted that while reading and staff stability have improved, teaching quality remains inconsistent and disadvantaged pupils are still not achieving well.

The Changing Lives Learning Trust is currently working with the Department for Education to transfer the academy to the Cumbria Education Trust.
