The U.S. health regulator accepted Merck's experimental targeted drug, sacituzumab tirumotecan, for priority review following a late-stage trial.
The trial of 776 patients showed the drug reduced the risk of death by 32% and extended median overall survival to 19 months compared to 12.1 months on chemotherapy.
Severe treatment-related side effects affected about 54% of patients on the drug, and a regulatory decision is expected by June 2027.
