Sharjeel Imam Appeals to Supreme Court for Bail in 2020 Delhi Riots Case

Activist Sharjeel Imam has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's refusal to grant him bail in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots conspiracy case.

Imam’s plea argues that his prolonged incarceration of nearly seven years as an undertrial violates his fundamental right to a speedy trial under Article 21.

The petition contends that the prosecution has failed to examine a single witness from the over 900 listed, justifying his release after the expiry of legal embargoes.
