Two separate weekend mass shootings in South African townships near Johannesburg and Cape Town killed a total of at least 27 people, police reported.
Seventeen people were killed and 15 wounded when eight armed suspects opened fire with AK-47 rifles and pistols at a bar in Wedela township on Saturday.
Ten people died and 11 others were injured in a separate shooting incident at a store in Lwandle near Cape Town early Sunday morning.
