Centre Deploys National Team to Tackle Chandipura Virus Outbreak

The Centre has deployed a National Joint Outbreak Response Team (NJORT) to Gujarat and Rajasthan to assist state governments with surveillance and clinical management of the Chandipura virus.

Multidisciplinary experts from the NCDC, ICMR, and DAHD are investigating transmission patterns, including the role of vectors like sandflies, mosquitoes, and ticks in the current outbreak.

Health authorities have collected approximately 70 animal blood samples to determine if domestic livestock act as reservoirs, while the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre conducts whole-genome sequencing on virus samples.
