A population-based analysis of over 500 occupations found that flight attendants and pilots face the highest risk-adjusted mortality rates from radiation-related cancers.
Data from 12,710,517 death certificates between 2020 and 2024 showed flight attendants had a 6.9% mortality rate from these cancers, while pilots recorded 6.7%.
Researchers observed significantly elevated odds for breast, central nervous system, prostate, and melanoma mortality, suggesting a need for enhanced occupational radiation protections for aircrew.
